(NATURE) EXPERIENCES, SPORTS & ACTION

Must do

Explore the area while cycling or hiking, travel into the history of Tibet, admire eagles in a swoop, balance through the treetops in a climbing forest, get a kick out of a tandem paraglider or view our country from above on a sightseeing flight around Carinthia in a glider or motorised aircraft... Carinthia offers so much variety and adventure!

Slowtrail Bleistätter Moor

An absolute must for nature lovers

Only five minutes by car from our guesthouse is one of the entrances to the circular trail through the Bleistätter Moor. The Slow Trail Bleistätter Moor leads through the species-rich nature, landscape and European conservation area of the Tiebel estuary and offers insights into the habitat of about 100 different bird species, butterflies, bats and the beaver. Along the dam trail there are two observation towers where you can watch the numerous inhabitants of the Bleistätter Moor. You can hike through the circular trail or go to the next boat landing at the Steinhaus and take a leisurely return trip.

Ossiach Gorge Trail

A natural paradise on the doorstep

The Ossiacher Schluchtenweg (Ossiach Gorge Trail) starts almost directly in front of our front door, somewhat hidden, next to the small bridge on the main road. You walk along the Rappitschbach stream and soon enter a wildly romantic enchanted forest with old trees and mossy stones, where the crystal-clear water gurgles in between. The trail continues leisurely over stones, roots and small wooden bridges before you reach the Ossiacher Tauernteich pond, past a dilapidated mill. Here there are a few cosy benches to rest on. By the way, you return along the same path, or if you have time, you can take the gravel road (path 64) down to Ossiach. A "cool" hike on hot days.

Mountainbike Trail Ossiach

Stamina is required here

With the new mountain bike trail, Ossiach is literally playing in the top league of this trend sport! The trail leads from Ossiach via a forest road to the Ossiacher Tauern and offers breathtaking views of the lake! Up to the Tauern pond you have to master approx. 350 metres of altitude difference, before it goes downhill again for a few kilometres. After passing through a farm, you reach the main road and cycle back to the starting point on the R2A cycle path. Total length 13.4 km, 435 m of altitude, cycling time approx. 2 hrs.

Kletterwald Ossiacher See

30,000 m2 adrenaline

Only one kilometre away in the direction of Ossiach is the Ossiacher See climbing forest. From the course you have a spectacular view of the lake. There is also Austria's first forest roller coaster "Fly-Line" at the climbing forest site! Everyone finds their fun here - whether children or sports-mad adults. It's absolute madness. 30,000 m2 of nature experience, adventure, thrills and pure adrenaline!

NEW from 2021: The expansion to over 150 exercises (4 new courses, new Flying Fox course and much more) will make the Climbing Forest one of the largest adventure parks in Austria.

Adlerarena Burgruine Landskron

Fascinating bird of prey flight show

Experience the eagle arena with flight show and Europe's unique bird of prey park! In an approximately 40-minute demonstration, you will experience birds of prey flying freely in the sky in the updraft of the famous Landskron Castle. After breathtaking flights, the birds return to the falconer standing directly in front of you. The behaviour and habits of these animals, some of which are endangered, are explained in detail.

Affenberg Burgruine Landskron

Austria's largest open-air monkey enclosure

Around 170 Japanese macaques live at Affenberg Landskron. They are kept in a species-appropriate manner and scientifically cared for. Experience exciting things and learn interesting facts about these unique animals, which live in a fenced, 4-ha wooded area as if they were in the wild.

Terra Mystica & Terra Montana

Two show mines - one location

The 68 m long miner's slide takes you into the interior of the mountain directly to the station where the show mines are shared. A 600-metre walk through the Terra Mystica with seven mystical mines, multimedia shows, mine train ... or the 2 km-long mine train ride to Terra Montana, where the working world of the miner from the past to modern mining methods is presented in 14 stations.
A 49-metre-long shaft lift brings the Terra Mystica or Terra Montana experience to an end. The mining museum with 700 years of mining history is informative, while the caricature museum Terra Humoristika is fun.

Paragliding, the very special holiday experience

Tandem flight from the Gerlitze

An international hotspot for paragliders is the Gerlitze. The thermal conditions and favourable updrafts attract paragliders from all over Europe. So if you want to take off in a special way, you can try it out with a certified paraglider pilot on a tandem flight. Once in the air, an indescribable feeling of happiness awaits you! There is no freer and more pristine way to fly. Your feet dangle into the void, but your senses experience high altitude. Guaranteed unforgettable!

Sightseeing flights over Carinthia

Fulfil your dream of flying!

To the east of Feldkirchen, facing Lake Ossiach, the idyllic Feldkirchen airfield has been located since the 1050s. The air sports club owns a number of modern aircraft with which you can fly at any time: Motor planes, motor gliders, ultralights and gliders. The cost price is charged by the minute. You decide where and how long you want to fly. So: Ready for take-off on a Carinthian lake tour, to the Nockberge mountains, to the Großglockner, or wherever you want to go.

Harrer Museum - a journey to Tibet

Encounter foreign cultures and peoples

The Heinrich Harrer Museum covers an area of 1,000 m² and displays over 5,000 fascinating exhibits that tell the story of Heinrich Harrer and his travels and expeditions.

The Tibet section of the museum includes a Buddhist prayer room, which was personally consecrated by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. Just like the Lingkor, a Tibetan pilgrimage path visible from afar, which is located on the rock face opposite the museum. Along this circular path you will find symbols and objects of Tibetan Buddhism.
